A jury in the U.K. found Thursday that a 16-year-old boy who died on a Scout trip in 2018 was unlawfully killed, and a coroner referred the Scout Association to British police for investigation.

The Scouts' boss has said he wants to be able to look the parents of a killed boy in the eyes and ensure them the tragedy will not be repeated.  Ben Leonard, 16, from Stockport in Greater Manchester fell from cliffs in Llandudno, Conwy, in August 2018. Matt Hyde, chief executive of The Scout Association, has told the inquest into his death that lessons will be learned.  The organisation has already told the Manchester inquest that it accepts responsibility for the boy's death.

Peter Collins Simpson, 28, an employee of the Boy Scouts of America has been arrested for sex abuse of a minor in Molalla, Oregon according to police. On Feb. 1, a Molalla Police officer was on patrol when he came across a car after hours at a park. The officer interviewed the driver identified as 28-year-old Peter Collins Simpson. Boy Scout volunteer, David Lee Nelson, 41, of Redmond, Wash. admitted to hiding cameras in S Bar F Scout Ranch bathrooms and pleaded guilty to two counts of production of child pornography and two counts of attempted production of child pornography.  The charges carry a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison, followed by a term of supervised release of up to life.

Ben and two friends were walking away from the rest of the group when he slipped and fell, the inquest heard.
